Sunday Sermons
At Cornerstone, the sermons are primarily expository in nature. We spend most of our time stepping through a section or book of the Bible verse by verse, section by section, and occasionally we will preach on a theme. The elders strive to make each sermon a Christ centered, church building, Gospel proclaiming, truth driven, biblically grounded, proclamation for the purpose of God glorifying transformation.
We tackle Paul’s appeal to the Galatians as delivered in [esvignore]chapter 4:1-11[/esvignore]. Here, we find some of the most encouraging words in the whole epistle regarding our status as sons and the gospel work of Christ that makes us so. But we also are reminded that before Christ’s work on our behalf, we were slaves, not sons. Recall that in Galatia, the…
Our text for today is [esvignore]Galatians 3:1-6[/esvignore] where we discover Paul returning to the Galatian problem with strong language. Our focus is [esvignore]verse 3[/esvignore], “Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” In this sermon, we are challenged to consider our own tendency to revert to law-keeping and living a performance-based life of law-keeping and futile striving…
In this second of two sermons on Covenant Theology, we discover why the New Covenant is so very new, why it is better than the old, and how that newness should be practiced in the life of the church. Join us as we look at several passages of scripture, mostly from the prophets, to understand the important characteristics of those who are…
“I will be your God and you will be my people.” That’s the essence of the divine covenants. In this first part of two topical sermons, covenant theology is explained and its significance is demonstrated. Among our passages, we look at [esvignore]Ezekiel 37:26-27[/esvignore]; [esvignore]Joshua 7:11[/esvignore]; [esvignore]Deuteronomy 9:4-6[/esvignore]; [esvignore]Luke 24:25-27, 44[/esvignore]. Our topics include the definition of covenant and what God intends to…
In this sermon from [esvignore]Galatians 1:6 to 2:14[/esvignore], we find that what we preach and the fruit we bear uncovers where our heart’s devotion lies. In order for the [esvignore]Galatian[/esvignore] false teachers to be proven errant, Paul had to establish his credible witness and His gospel’s divine origin. From Paul’s testimony to the churches in…
[esvignore]Galatians 1:11-17, Romans 14:1-9 – At this point in Chapter 1 of Galatians, the apostle Paul is continuing to make the point to his brothers and sisters that they are to stick to the true gospel, rejecting all other distortions. In our text today, Paul continues to reinforce the message that they are to listen to…
In this sermon we learn that Paul is stunned and astonished that the Galatian churches would so quickly abandon the gospel of Christ. Explore with us the very dangerous thinking that we are above such astonishing sins. Our text is [esvignore]Galatians 1:6-9[/esvignore], from which we derived four observations: 1.) The Astonishment; 2.) The Deserters; 3.)…
Our last sermon in our Proverbs study looks at [esvignore]Proverbs 9[/esvignore]. Here we find a final exhortation to the son/student to love and cherish Wisdom. Our text brings us through the top four warnings from [esvignore]Proverbs 1-8[/esvignore] as a review, and such a review is a welcomed thing to God’s people who recognize that we are but children in need to repetition.…
We take the whole of [esvignore]Proverbs 8[/esvignore] today as we learn about the nearness of wisdom to God’s people. Our Lord does not open our eyes to the glory of salvation, and then cruelly hide Himself from us. What He asks of us, He equips us to do. In this sermon we look at the urgency of Wisdom’s call, the public nature…
This Resurrection Day brings us to a message from [esvignore]Romans 8:31-39[/esvignore] where we speak much of death. Only against the backdrop of death can we appreciate the glorious resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Join us in this encouraging message as the Word stirs us up to great awe and thanksgiving for the risen Savior!…
