Sunday Sermons
At Cornerstone, the sermons are primarily expository in nature. We spend most of our time stepping through a section or book of the Bible verse by verse, section by section, and occasionally we will preach on a theme. The elders strive to make each sermon a Christ centered, church building, Gospel proclaiming, truth driven, biblically grounded, proclamation for the purpose of God glorifying transformation.
We return to the Old Testament today after an eight week study in Titus. We begin the book of [esvignore]2nd Samuel[/esvignore], and we will pick up the story of David where we left it off. We will cover [esvignore]verses 1-16[/esvignore]. In this first chapter, we pick up in the dark days of Israel’s military loss to the combined Philistine army. During that…
This is our last sermon from the epistle of Titus. In this final message, we cover [esvignore]Titus 3:8-15[/esvignore]. Paul finishes with some last instructions that we will examine in these four sections: Fruit of Salvation Avoid Divisive Issues Avoid Divisive People A Healthy and Distinct People of Grace. Our Public reading was[esvignore]James 2:14-26[/esvignore] Titus 3:8-15 James 2:14-26
Our sermon is entitled “Paul’s Gospel of Jesus Christ.” We will be in [esvignore]Titus 3:1-7.[/esvignore] If you would like a head start on section headers, the message breaks down like so: 1. Reminder 2. The Gospel According to Paul a. Need for Salvation b. Source of Salvation c. Ground of Salvation d. Means of Salvation e. Goal of Salvation 3. How Do…
We continue in our series on the epistle of Titus by examining [esvignore]Titus 2:11-15[/esvignore]. We’ll look at God’s grace in three tenses, Past Grace, Present Grace and Future Grace. We will learn that we discover this grace through God’s “Standard Message,” which is that unchanging fidelity to the Word of God. As we have been learning, things that accord with sound doctrine…
Our sermon is entitled “Living in the Community of Grace.” It is from [esvignore]Titus 2:1-10[/esvignore]. Paul instructs Titus to teach old and young, men and women, free and slave, to practice what accords with sound doctrine, and he gives several examples. These are the remedies for what the false teachers were preaching. It should be a good lesson for us about how…
This Sunday we had a fifth Sunday Topical Sermon entitled “The Command to Disciple Our Children.” It was taken from the classic verse, [esvignore]Deuteronomy 6:4-15[/esvignore]. We have not visited this passage in a while, so its time to have a status-checkup of our families. We spend 10 minutes up front though talking about how we Christians are to profit from and utilize passages…
Our message comes from [esvignore]Titus 1:10-16[/esvignore] where we discover the kinds of men that were turning whole families upside down on Crete. These false teachers were misleading God’s people with a “Gospel Plus” message, motivated by self-gain, and were destroying the real lives of beloved sheep. These wicked teachers are the reason Titus was sent to put qualified, honest, and Godly men…
Our sermon is entitled Resurrection Life, and we look today at the power of the resurrection. Our passage was taken from [esvignore]Philippians 3:4b-11[/esvignore]. We considered that the resurrection is a fact to be believed, but it is also an action to be experienced. We then asked how the resurrection life is demonstrated. Have you been resurrected? Listen and see. Our public reading…
Our study in Titus continues as we look at [esvignore]Titus 1:6-9[/esvignore], and we will cover the qualifications we should see in a pastor and why these qualifications are important. Our sermon will be entitled Blameless in Two Houses. We’ll take a high level approach and see that a man who is to lead God’s people should be above reproach in his own home,…
Our sermon this week is entitled “Put Into Order.” We focus on [esvignore]Titus 1:5[/esvignore]. What a change from the Samuel series where we often had to read pages of narrative and whole chapters in order to look at over-arching themes. In our text today, we are mostly drawing from one word in Greek, the term translated “put into order.” This kind of…
