Gospel of Matthew – The Rotten Sin of Hypocrisy

This week’s message is entitled The Rotten Sin of Hypocrisy and is drawn from [esvignore]Matthew 6:1-18[/esvignore]. This just happens to be one of my favorite chapters in the entire Bible, thanks to the last section we will arrive at in due time, but it also contains the Lord’s Prayer. We will not address the Lord’s Prayer tomorrow, as it deserves its own sermon (and could even warrant a whole series). The prayer is actually interjected as a next-level thought in Jesus’ message here, we will deal with the three main points tomorrow, which illustrate the theme of hypocrisy. This will be a good opportunity to come humbly to our Lord with open hearts and willing minds. Please pray for me as well, I have been sick with a severe cold for the entire week, and though I believe its progressing normally, it has yet to completely run its course. I’ll be froggy! Our outline is simple:

  • 1. Introduction to a New Section
  • 2. Lets talk about Hypocrites
  • 3. Three Illustrations
  • 4. Hypocrites Destroy the Church’s Testimony

Public reading: [esvignore]Proverbs 11:12-31[/esvignore]; Benediction: [esvignore]2 Corinthians 13:11[/esvignore].
