This sermon will wrap up our study of [esvignore]1 Samuel 15[/esvignore]. We will visit several verses in the chapter, and will look at God’s regret and Saul’s repentance. God’s regret is not as we might guess, and Saul’s repentance is not as it seems. In the first half, we study some doctrinal goodies, like “anthropomorphism” and “impassibility.” We see how these are important to our faith and not just high and lofty terms. We examine five reasons that Saul’s repentance is fraudulent, and see how these are common in the false repentance we are likely to encounter, both in ourselves and others. We will wrap it up with a last look at the warning of Saul’s life and a heart-felt plea to understand and avoid the deep, deep sorrow of sin.
