Sunday Sermons
At Cornerstone, the sermons are primarily expository in nature. We spend most of our time stepping through a section or book of the Bible verse by verse, section by section, and occasionally we will preach on a theme. The elders strive to make each sermon a Christ centered, church building, Gospel proclaiming, truth driven, biblically grounded, proclamation for the purpose of God glorifying transformation.
Our introduction to this new series on the book of [esvignore]1st Samuel[/esvignore] opens with a tale told as an object lesson, moves to the text and examines its place in the Bible, its authorship, its historical context, its genre and its purpose as a story. We learn about narratives and the importance of a proper methods of reading the Bible. Don’t miss…
Our last message from our Ephesians study examines the benediction at the end of the letter. Here we review the two most important messages of the entire epistle. We will consider our unity and brotherhood as God’s family, and we will also be reminded that the family of God has expectations. We will also have a call to believe the gospel of…
In this message, we use [esvignore]Ephesians 6:21-22[/esvignore] as a jumping off point to demonstrate some important distinctions in how churches are to interact with one another. This will necessarily include some teaching on church polity, or how the church ought to be governed and organized. In this message, we cover the three major types of church government and explain why we believe…
Our last message for 2015 will also be one of great importance. We examine [esvignore]Ephesians 6:18-20[/esvignore] once again but look this time at Paul’s request for prayer for himself. This request implies much, and we can benefit from the Bible’s persistent message to pray for your pastors. Pastoral ministry is hard work, requires humility and submission to the Word of God. Our…
Our sermon text, [esvignore]Ephesians 6:18[/esvignore], brings us nearly to the end of our study of Ephesians. We’ll learn from our verse what praying in the Spirit is, the times and places we are to pray, what kinds of prayers we should pray, and for whom our prayers should be directed. Ephesians 6:18 Our public reading…
Once again we visit the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, in [esvignore]Ephesians 6:17[/esvignore]. We will learn about how the Sword of the Spirit overcomes four opponents: persecutors, false teachers, personal sin, and affliction. We will look at these four opponents from God’s perspective, seeing that Jesus Christ has already overcome them, and…
Our sermon this week will be an introduction to our last piece of military hardware in the Christian armory. This week, [esvignore]Ephesians 6:17[/esvignore] teaches us about the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. It is such a short statement, just a few words, a matter-of-fact command to take it up. What…
[esvignore]Psalm 1[/esvignore] – This psalm opens the collection of psalms that we find in our Bible today. It is foundational a proper understanding of God, man, godliness, and prosperity. Verses 1 and 2 are often quoted and memorized as they encourage man to walk in purity. Verse 3, on the other hand, describes the blessed man as prosperous in all that he…
In this message we ask “Do you lead a happy life? Are you characterized by a life of general gladness and usually found with a smile on your face?” [esvignore]Ephesians 6:17[/esvignore] brings our study to the helmet of salvation. Here we discover that salvation is ultimately completed in glory, but here and now God has…
The one faith that is to be treasured is justifying faith, for it alone has the power to save and then defend us. This week we continue our study of the Full Armor of God with a message from [esvignore]Ephesians 6:16[/esvignore]. We will have much application in our sermon, including looking at the great treasure…
