Hospitality As An Expression of Love

Our sermon is entitled “Hospitality As An Expression of Love” and we will be launching from [esvignore]1 John 3:15-18[/esvignore]. I hope to show how it is a vital part of the Christian life, necessary for a vibrant community, and a command from God. I do not wish to lay burdens on people, which is what these kinds of sermons can sometimes be perceived as doing. But I think there will be some creative ideas for us to consider. I hope to break us out of the picture we tend to hold on to about what hospitality is, and hopefully they will help us all be obedient to what is a Biblical command. We’ll consider the following outline items:

  1. Why We’re Talking About Hospitality
  2. The Basis of Hospitality
    1. Hospitality is grounded in the Love of God and Love for Others
    2. Hospitality is grounded in the Welfare of our neighbors.
      1. Self denial
      2. Compassion
    3. Hospitality is grounded in Obedience to God.
    4. Hospitality is grounded upon the Desire for God’s Glory.
  3. Practicing Hospitality
