Gospel of Matthew – The Refugee: Wanted and Despised

Our sermon is taken from the Gospel of [esvignore]Matthew 2:13-23[/esvignore]. This message will show us the great divide between the world and Christ. With wickedness rampant in tyrannical leaders like Herod, the world is never a safe place for Jesus or His followers. From the Lord’s earliest days, He is hunted. Matthew shows us yet again that this is the expected circumstance for the Lord’s human experience. He is despised, low, and from a place of disrepute, yet still a King seeks His life. Here is how the message will break down:

  1. Historical Orientation
  2. Night Flight to Egypt
  3. Slaughter of the Boys
  4. Out of Egypt into Nazareth
  5. Man of sorrows
    1. Implications for us
    2. Our battle
