Our sermon this week will be entitled The Model Prayer: Our Father. We go back to [esvignore]Matthew 6:5-13[/esvignore] to take time to step through what is commonly, but inaccurately called, “The Lord’s Prayer.” We’ll see why there are better names for this passage. We will also see why we need to be taught how to pray, touching on man’s traditions and his praying when left to his own creativity. We will investigate to whom we are to pray and how that shapes our priorities and reflects the greater priorities that ought to be present in our daily lives. We will end with speaking about those things that impede our prayers and how a right perspective on priority can help us remove those impediments. Our outline is:
1. The Text
2. Traditions and Man’s Prayer
3. Focus of the prayer – Priorities
4. Our Father
5. Apply – Having a Father helps overcome impediments to prayer
