Four Marks of Biblical Fatherhood

Our message is about the important calling of fatherhood. Our texts are the classic texts for this very important message, Proverbs 4:1-4 and Deuteronomy 6:7. These are important topics and the message is absolutely necessary for Christ’s people. We’ll examine four marks of the Biblically faithful father. This is a good reminder for fathers, but our children need to hear messages like these too in order to equip them for their own future. We need our young men to be Godly fathers, our young women to be able to identify good character in a potential husband, and our single and functionally single folks to be equipped with good wisdom to impart to their children. What does God require of a dad?

Proverbs 4:1-4

4:1 Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction,
and be attentive, that you may gain insight,
for I give you good precepts;
do not forsake my teaching.
When I was a son with my father,
tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,
he taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words;
keep my commandments, and live. (ESV)

Deuteronomy 6:7

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (ESV)
