Our sermon is taken from a large section of scripture, [esvignore]2 Samuel 18:1-19:8[/esvignore]. I pray that we will see some powerful lessons in this sad section of scripture. Absalom dies, David fails to properly act, and Joab is the only one who knew what had to be done, even if it meant violating an order. David had a form of love but no action, Joab had justice but violated orders, so it is a tragic day of sad victory in Israel. Our lesson breaks down like so:
- Setting the Scene
- More of the curse
- God’s will for Absalom
- Absalom
- Pride unto death
- Monuments
- Tragedy of vanity
- David
- The King’s Love
- The King’s Grief
- Joab
- Isreal’s Patton
- The Rebuke
- Lessons for Christian Homes
- The right way to love
- Parents and kids
- Justice and love failed to meet
- The Substitute
