2nd Samuel – David’s Song

This week’s sermon is entitled “David’s Song,” and is from [esvignore]2 Samuel 22[/esvignore]. Its a good “meat and potatoes” kind of message – filled with nutrition for our souls but not necessarily a hammer blow to the conscience. We will enjoy hearing great praise in this third of six sections that comprise the epilogue of the reign of King David, which means we only have three more messages after today’s from this long study we have been enjoying. If you remember, each of the epilogue’s six parts sheds light on David’s Kingdom in the following ways – First, we encountered a problem in David’s kingdom – that was the troubling sermon on the atoning sacrifice of the sons of Saul, and the wrath that satisfied God’s curse on Israel. Second, we learned last week about the strength of David’s kingdom, even as David himself succumbed to weakness and fought his last battle. Third, we arrive at a theme of hope and worship in David’s kingdom. This is a very glad passage of scripture, and if you read it and it sounds familiar, it is also [esvignore]Psalm 18[/esvignore]. Here is our outline:

  1. David the Artist
    1. The Place of Poetry
    2. Facts without Spice
  2. Praise Bursts Forth!
    1. Great Praise
    2. Great Desperation
  3. The Righteousness of Man?
  4. The Power and the Glory
  5. Salvation is of the Lord!
