Our message comes from [esvignore]1 Samuel 18:6-16[/esvignore], the story of Saul’s envy and attempted murder of David. Saul is declining in his sanity, his sin and torment are pushing him ever-deeper into irrationality. As the Israelites celebrate the victory over the Philistines, the women sing and praise both King Saul and David, the new national hero. But Saul is displeased, for David get’s the greatest honor. We shall see here the difference between mere jealousy and deadly envy.
In this message, we apply the lessons of Saul by asking eight simple questions of ourselves to see if there might be envy dwelling in our hearts, and five very broad remedies are suggested to get us thinking in the right direction.
